ALL ABOUT angelica

Now I do it at weddings. I'm Angelica — Bogotá Colombia born, Reno-based, and completely devoted to images that feel as alive ten years from now as the moment they were taken.

I learned to
photograph the

moment in the wild.

unrepeatable

I grew up in Bogotá, Colombia with a deep pull toward beauty and visual storytelling. Life took me through a chemical engineering degree, a career in tech, and eventually to Tesla — building things, solving problems, obsessing over details. I was good at it. But photography never let me go.

Then came Africa. I invested in serious gear for the first time and spent 20 days in safari vehicles across the continent — watching, waiting, preparing, and finally catching moments that existed for a fraction of a second and never came back. That trip didn't just ignite a passion. It taught me everything I know about what photography actually is.

The long road here made me

the photographer I am.

exactly

You cannot pose a leopard. You cannot ask a herd of elephants to hold still. You read the light, you understand your subject, you prepare for everything you can — and then you are fully, completely present when the moment arrives. That is the only way to catch the real thing.

I quit Tesla. My husband and I drove from Salt Lake City through Canada all the way to Alaska, photographing wildlife the whole way. I've chased camels and desert light across Oman. Every trip I plan, every dollar I invest in travel, points toward nature, wildlife, and the unrepeatable moment. And every wedding I photograph is an extension of exactly that.

"A wildlife photographer can't manufacture the moment. They can only be ready for it. That's exactly how I approach your wedding day."

-Angelica Montilla

Before your wedding day, I've already studied your venue, mapped the light at different times, worked through your timeline, and thought carefully about every variable I can control — so that on the day itself, I'm not thinking. I'm just seeing.

That same obsession carries into editing. I don't stop until every image reflects what I saw and what you felt. The engineer in me won't let it be anything less than exactly right.

Total Presence.

THE SAFARI MINDSET

Obsessive prepatation.

The real moment.

The way your partner looks at you right before you see each other. The laugh that happens between the formal ones. The quiet moment between you and your parent that nobody planned.

Those are the images that will matter in 20 years. Not the perfectly staged ones — the real ones. Catching them requires the exact same skill set I built over years of wildlife photography: reading people the way I once read animals, anticipating the moment before it arrives, and being technically prepared enough that nothing gets in the way of catching it.

That's what I bring to your day. And it's why the couples who hire me tend to be people who value artistry, trust their photographer completely, and end up with images that genuinely surprise them.

I'm deeply close to the people I love — which is probably why I understand so instinctively what's actually worth photographing at a wedding.

Africa, Alaska, Oman, China — every trip I plan revolves around wildlife and light. Giant pandas, desert camels, Alaskan bears. I come back a sharper photographer every single time.

I geek out on the technical side of photography — light physics, color science. My engineering background never really switched off. It just found a better use.
